Gems for thought💜!

This month we are celebrating Black History Month, and if you know anything about me, you know that I believe that Black History IS American History and should be celebrated 365 days a year!

Nevertheless, since Black History is only recognized by the masses when February comes around, I think of it as Black History’s birthday month, and you know how much I love a good birthday celebration!

Black History Month is an opportunity for all of us to honour, respect, and recognize the value and humanity of Black people. That is why I want to share with you all two of the most influential women in history and the beauty space who happened to be Black Women.

Annie Malone

Annie Minerva Turnbo Malone, also known as Annie Minerva Turnbo Pope Malone and Annie Minerva Turnbo Malone, was an African American businesswoman and philanthropist in the early 20th century. In 1920, $14 million in assets are said to have been held by Annie Minerva Turnbo Malone, CEO of beauty and cosmetic companies headquartered in St. Louis and Chicago. Madame C.J. Walker

After suffering from a scalp disease that resulted in hair loss, Madam C.J. Walker developed a line of African American hair products. She gave lectures and demonstrations across the nation to promote her products, eventually establishing Madame C.J. Walker Laboratories to manufacture cosmetics and educate sales beauticians. She was one of the first American women to become a self-made millionaire through her business. In addition to being active in philanthropic causes, she was known for her charitable donations, including a donation to support the construction of an Indianapolis YMCA in 1913. What’s even more amazing is that both of these incredible women were the first millionaires in American history! Their contributions literally changed hair care for Black women around the world and their stories have shown us all the power of diversity and innovation and what’s possible when we’re inclusive of others!!
